Blue Jays acquire Jose Bautista from Pirates

TORONTO – Utilityman Jose Bautista was acquired by the Toronto Blue Jays from the Pittsburgh Pirates on Thursday for a player to be named.

The 27-year-old hit .242 with 12 homers and 44 RBIs in 107 games for Pittsburgh this season, then was demoted to Triple-A this month.

Drafted by the Pirates in 2000, Bautista reached the major leagues with Baltimore in 2004, and has also played for Kansas City and Tampa Bay. Primarily a third baseman, he has also played all three outfield positions The five-year veteran has a career average of .240 with 43 home runs and 161 RBIs.
