Shawne Merriman is in Birmingham, Ala., today to see specialist James Andrews about lingering pain in his surgically repaired right knee.

A source close to Merriman confirmed that the three-time Pro Bowler is troubled by his difficulty getting pain-free since training camp began. Merriman has not practiced for more than a week but has been working strenuously on the side. He was hit by a helmet on the knee earlier this month, and there is concern about him playing. He sat out Saturday's game at St. Louis.

Merriman consulted with Andrews this offseason prior to having his meniscus repaired. He reported feeling great before training camp.
