Rain shortens Scandinavian TPC to 54-hole event

STOCKHOLM, Sweden – Rain and a flooded course postponed second-round play Friday and shortened the Scandinavian TPC to a 54-hole tournament.

Tee times Saturday will remain the same, when the weather is expected to improve, organizers said. Annika Sorenstam held a 1-shot lead after a 6-under 66 Thursday.

“The course is unplayable, it is so wet,” tournament director Agustin Alonso said. “The bunkers are completely flooded. We cleared the water away from some greens and some are perfect. With thunder storms expected in the afternoon, it would be unfair to commence the second round.”

Sorenstam, who is hosting the Ladies European Tour event for the last time, will stop playing in December to start a family and focus on business and golf interests.

The 37-year-old winner of 10 majors captured the tournament title six times from 1997-2006 when it was the Compaq Open, HP Open and Scandinavian TPC Hosted by Annika.
