Induction ceremonies for the San Diego County Sports Officials Hall of Fame will be Sept. 16 at the Hall of Champions in Balboa Park.

Longtime football officials Michael Carey, Steve Coover, Cal Evans, Jim Sibbett and Bill Tellous will join Linda Powell (basketball), Bob Kauffman (softball), James Gilchrist (basketball), Patricia Malta (volleyball) and Hans Kramm (soccer) in being honored.

Dinner will start at 7 p.m. Cost per person is $80 with a portion of the ticket being donated to a Sports Officials Hall of Fame exhibit fund.

Memorial service

A memorial service for longtime City Conference football coach Chris Miller is scheduled for 11 a.m. Sept. 6 at the Harry Griffen Park amphitheater in La Mesa.

Miller, who died in his sleep, coached at Crawford (1981-85), Patrick Henry (1987-89) and Scripps Ranch (1994-96). His teams had winning records nine of his 11 years.

Miller compiled a 69-47-3 record. His 1985 Crawford team lost to Lincoln in the section final.

New gym

The San Diego Jewish Academy will conduct an opening ceremony for its new gym at 6 p.m. Wednesday. The public is invited to the campus in Carmel Valley.
