San Diego State junior Jamel Wallace (Oceanside High) scored 23 minutes into yesterday's men's soccer match against Cal, providing the difference in the Aztecs' 1-0 victory over the seventh-ranked Bears at the SDSU Sports Deck.
SDSU is now 3-3-3 in the Pac-10 and 5-8-3 overall. The Aztecs are now 5-2-1 against Cal (2-2-3, 7-3-5) since moving into the Pac-10 four years ago. The victory was all the more impressive because SDSU played a man down for nearly 50 minutes when junior Daniel Ortega (Eastlake High) was issued a red card and sent off late in the first half.
The Aztecs were outshot 13-4 in the second half, but Aztecs goalkeeper Jorge Rosales and his defense denied the Bears time and again.
